A water main break closed a section of Paterson Street in New Brunswick Monday morning.
Crews responded to the break around 5:30 a.m.
Paterson Street between George and Nielsen streets are closed due to the break, and police asked people to avoid that area.
Crews on the scene said that that cold weather is most likely the cause of the break.
"There's breaks and leaks that are not surfaced yet the cold just shears the pipe a little bit more to get it up and come to surface some are directly due to water some are prolonged, but some up when the weather comes us," said Kevin Thompson, with New Brunswick Water Utility.
Some businesses were without running water and unable to make hot breakfast Monday morning.
But through the bitter cold, morning crews isolated the break, salted and started the repairs.
"When something like this happens literally like huge crews from the water company have to come in and it could be for hours and hours," said Marinaro. "Something like this right off of a main street could literally back up traffic, close down roads. It could be a nightmare for people who travel here or commute here but also for us business owners.
Marinaro is a YouTuber and has a nearby studio, which does have water, but he's concerned about getting home after work.
Crews were not able to provide a timeline about when it will be fixed.
