A meeting is scheduled Monday at the Warwick Fire Department to determine the next steps in dealing with a fire at a battery storage facility.
The fire broke out after 10 p.m. Friday in one of the lithium-ion battery storage units at the Convergent Energy and Power Facility at 28 Church St.
Fire, police as well as the Orange County Hazmat Unit were called to the scene.
The blaze, which was contained to one unit, burned through the weekend. It is unclear whether the fire is completely out. Convergent officials say the system has been idled until the company can enter the site and learn more about what happened.
The hazmat team has been monitoring air quality and say the public is safe, but the results of the tests have not yet been released. In 2023, two separate and severe weather events caused back-to-back fires at two of Convergent's storage facilities, including the site of Friday night's fire. Those fires smoldered for more than a week.
