Election Day is less than a week away, and voters in the neighborhoods of Sheepshead Bay, Brighton Beach, Manhattan Beach and Homecrest will be choosing between a trio of candidates.
Incumbent Inna Vernikov is seeking re-election in the 48th City Council District, but now faces a pair of challengers on the ballot - Democrat candidate Amber Adler and Independent party candidate Igor Kazatsker.
Adler is an Orthodox Jewish woman who lost this same race two years ago, and says her focus is on improving the quality of life in her community.
"I see City Council as this great tool to make amazing policy that can help people," said Adler.
Kazatsker is running as an Independent after losing to Vernikov in June's Republican primary. His focus is on clean and safe streets.
"If we don't have safety on the streets we cannot come out of from the home to the street," said Kazatsker. "If we can't... come to the street, we can't care about sanitation because we don't see it.
