The Aviator Sports and Events Center at Floyd Bennett Field was expected to close its doors Monday, but the facility remains open, with lacrosse games underway and families continuing as usual — at least for now.
Many parents are growing increasingly frustrated by the lack of communication from both city and federal officials.
“It’s very sad that this had to be dragged to the last day,” said Mila Polishchuk, a mother of two young athletes. “Gymnastics is no longer here, my son’s basketball team is no longer here, the place is half empty and no one knows what’s going on.”
The uncertainty stems from ongoing negotiations between the National Park Service and the center’s new ownership. So far, no resolution has been announced.
Parents told News 12 there have been several meetings today between the National Park Service and the Adams administration to find a solution.
News 12 has reached out to both the mayor’s office and the National Park Service for comment.
No updates have been provided.
