The 62-year-old Kingston man was arrested and charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
The victim suffered a head injury and was treated at Health Alliance Hospital Saint Mary's Campus.
The suspect remains in custody at the Ulster County Jail, awaiting a future court appearance.
