Uber driver accused of threatening would-be passenger with gun in Atlantic Beach

An Uber driver in Atlantic Beach threatened his would-be passenger Saturday night with a firearm, Nassau police say.
It happened on Ocean Boulevard near The Plaza around 11:45 p.m.
Detectives say James Watson, 63, threatened a 30-year-old woman by showing her a gun and refused to let her get in his vehicle.
Police say the woman feared for her life and canceled the ride while Watson left the area. Officers found Watson about a block away. They say the found the gun in his car and arrested him.
Watson was arraigned Sunday and released on his own recognizance..
Watson, of Roosevelt, faces menacing and criminal possession of a firearm charges. He is due back in court next month.
News 12 has reached out to Uber, which responded Sunday evening with a statement that reads, “This is extremely concerning. We removed the driver’s access to the app and are continuing to investigate.”
