The Transportation Security Administration says that Newark Liberty International Airport set a record on Thursday for the most people screened at checkpoints in one day.
Friday was expected to be a peak Fourth of July holiday travel day. TSA says that travel usually peaks on July 4, but says that seven of the top busiest travel days have occurred in the past month.
TSA also broke the record on Sunday for the most people screened in a single day nationwide. Security agents screened nearly three million travelers. They expect to screen more than 32 million people from June 27 through July 8, which TSA says is a 5% increase from last year. They anticipate this being the business summer ever.
TSA officials say that is it important for travelers to arrive early to the airport and to listen to guidance provided by security officers.
