Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy will visit Morris County on Saturday to discuss the ongoing Interstate 80 sinkhole repairs.

Duffy says he will be joined by Gov. Phil Murphy and Rep. Thomas Kean to receive updates on the New Jersey Department of Transportation's efforts to repair the multiple sinkholes that have formed on the highway since December.

“Secretary Duffy will also highlight the work of DOT’s Federal Highway Administration with the NJDOT to reopen I-80 as soon as possible,” a spokesperson for the secretary wrote in a statement.

The announcement comes as a different sinkhole developed on Interstate 287 in Parsippany-Troy Hills, not far from I-80 in Wharton. Two lanes are closed on the highway due to this sinkhole.

At least three sinkholes have formed on I-80 East since December, with the latest one developing on Wednesday while crews were making repairs.

I-80 has been closed in both directions and detoured, affecting multiple businesses in the area financially.

Officials say abandoned mines are located underneath the area, and these voids are responsible for the collapsing roadway.
