NJ Transit and FIFA are expected to come together as concerns grow over how fans will get to World Cup matches at MetLife Stadium.

The cost of transportation has dampened excitement for some fans, with concerns extending beyond game tickets to the price of train travel.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill says she is excited about the World Cup and what it means for New Jersey but acknowledges parts of the situation are out of control.

“What I don’t want to see is when we have an event where some of the wealthiest people in the world come to watch it, where FIFA itself intends to make $11 billion for this game, I’m not going to put payment on the backs of New Jerseyans,” Sherrill said.

It remains unclear what steps the governor plans to take to address the issue.

Eight World Cup matches are scheduled to be played at MetLife Stadium starting in June.
