Keeping an eye on the conditions across the island and how they could impact your morning commute today. And joining us now is Brookhaven Highway Superintendent Dan Le Squadro. Dan, good morning. Thanks for joining us. How are the conditions in Brookhaven, a town that stretches all the way from the north to the south? Uh, good morning. Uh, everything's going pretty smoothly. Uh, it's been a, been a long night. Uh, myself and the crews have been going since 9 o'clock last night when we started to see, um, you know, some accumulation start to pile up. Uh, but everything's going well, working our way through our secondary and tertiary roads now. Um, obviously the main roads that seem more vehicular traffic, um, that salt that we put down is going to act more quickly. Um, so, you know, those roads are certainly going to be black, uh, faster. So, you know, exercise caution, especially on those secondary roads. Uh, we're pushing back, widening up those roads. If you did have cars parked on the road, unfortunately, you know, we do try to encourage people, um, you know, get those cars off the road. Um, but, you know, that does slow us down and, uh, uh, you know, prohibit us from Getting all the way to the curb line. So, um, I don't anticipate we'll be going past normal business hours today. Everything is going pretty smoothly according to plan. You know, Dan, it seems like at least from my experience on the roads with these two different storms, the salt and sand that went on to pre-treat the roads have really helped a whole lot, especially when it's not so much accumulations with the snow. Absolutely. And it also started uh cold enough. Uh, when we get that changeover at the beginning, it washes the material off the road, um, or if it starts as rain and then transitions to snow. So, um, you know, these past couple of storms have been a little bit better for us, uh, in that regard. They've started off cold, uh, the snow started, uh, accumulating initially. So any pre-treatment that we've done has been very effective. Right, Dan, the Squadro Brookhaven town Highway superintendent, thank you so much. Thank you.

From some local leaders and joining us now is Long Beach City manager Dan Creighton. Dan, thanks for joining us. Looks like you're out on the roads yourself. What are you seeing there in Long Beach? Yes, I am. Um, as was just mentioned, the roads look pretty clear. Um, I just want everybody to be safe and um. And recognize that although they're clear, it's it's very slippery. Our guys did a great job. We have one of the best DPW crews out here in Long Island. They really cleaned the roads. They pre-salted. They got everything ready, but but it's still, you know, post storms. So let's make sure we're out there. We're being safe. We're not driving erratically. Uh, because the roads are slippery and even with the salt down, there's always a chance that it, you know, it won't be the ideal conditions, right? Like these storms have just been a couple of inches, so people think, oh, no big deal, it's not that bad. I can just kind of not shovel and just plow out of there myself with my car. They can't think like that. Still got to be careful on the roads. Absolutely, absolutely. And Dan, uh, have you, you know, knows what we're used to snow here in in Long Beach and the rest of New York, but it's important that we recognize, you know, it's always a hazard, and we need to make sure that we drive appropriately. Dan, have your crews been able to navigate some of the more narrow roads there? Have people been able to get their cars off the street? Parking can be an issue, of courses. Yeah, I mean, the streets are narrow, but we have the right equipment for for the job. I mean our crews are used to doing this. They're out, they're out every time there's a storm. We get out about a few hours beforehand, make sure that we pre-salt the roads so that it really makes it easier to clean up once there's accumulation. So, um, I have to I have to take my hat off to my crews. They're they're one of the best out here, like I said, in Long Island, and, um, and they really do a good job of making sure we keep our residents safe.
