If you haven't picked up your candy for trick-or-treaters, be prepared to pay more. News 12 is taking a look at the cost of candy this Halloween.

"When you think about candy prices, they are up about 20% since 2019, but we don't stop buying it, especially around the Halloween season," says Caleb Silver, editor in chief at Investopedia.

Silver says overall consumers are expected to spend $3.5 billion just on candy this Halloween.

He says the reason is that ingredients cost more saying, "candy prices are really driven by the price of sugar and the price of cocoa, both are up substantially in the last four years.

"Silver says households are expected to spend on average $31.69 on candy. News 12 found some sales for 20% off candy, meaning you could get 30 pieces of candy for $7.99.

News 12's Kristie Reeter looked into what buying in bulk could save.

For just under $20 she was able to get 100 pieces of candy. Coming in about $12 under the national average people are expected to spend.
