Anthony Vargas, 22, of Bridgeport, says the pain of losing his father in a fatal shooting is still fresh five years after it happened.
"The pain will never go away," Vargas told News 12 Saturday.
Anthony Martinez was shot to death in Stratford in 2020 and the murder case has grown cold, Vargas said.
"But I've found a way to keep attention focused on my dad's cold case -- and to give back to the community at the same time," he said.
Vargas recently began holding outdoor movie nights in memory of his dad.
"My girlfriend and I set up a mobile projector and an inflatable screen in public places like Washington Park -- and we show popular movies for free," he said.
"People love it. We showed 'How to Train Your Dragon' and 'Kraven the Hunter' -- and our next show will be 'The Conjuring: Last Rites' on October 25th at 8 p.m. here in Washington Park," he said.
"We've gotten all the necessary permits to hold the shows -- and it's just a great way of remembering my dad. Everybody called him 'Big A' and that's why we call our movie nights 'The A Theater,'" he said.
