What if you could buy a home on Long Island for hundreds of thousands of dollars less than the estimated price?
That's the goal of partnership between the Uniondale Community Land Trust and Oden Development that aims to address the housing crisis and make home ownership a more affordable reality for more middle class Long Islanders.
The Uniondale Community Land Trust is breaking ground on a home that will be sold through a housing lottery - for less than its estimated value. Applicants who want to buy the two-story, three bedroom, 2 1/2-bathroom home in Uniondale will have to meet certain requirements, including being able to afford a down payment, be a first time home buyer and make a certain income. The home, which developer Walter Oden II says will blend seamlessly into the community, is being built at a factory in Pennsylvania and will be brought to the island and put together on the plot of land.
