The arrest of 55-year-old Chad Irish of the Bronx on Monday drew an upset crowd as he was taken away on a stretcher. Officers were forced to intervene as several people confronted and attacked Irish before he was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
According to police, officers responded last Friday to a call on East 27th Street about a suspicious package outside building 207. They discovered the body of 31-year-old Yazmeen Williams inside a sleeping bag, wrapped in plastic bags, and placed near trash on the sidewalk. The medical examiner found she had been shot in the head. Her death was ruled a homicide on July 7, but the time and location of her death remain unconfirmed.
Candles now flicker outside the building as a memorial grows in her honor.
Chad Irish has been charged with one count of concealing a human corpse, with additional charges likely pending. The investigation is ongoing.
