Surveillance video shows van crash into Monroe insurance office
New surveillance video shows the moment a construction van careened off Route 17M, through a parking lot and into the Insure One Insurance office in Monroe.
Town Supervisor Maureen Richardson says a garbage truck clipped the van Thursday afternoon, causing it to leave the road and crash into the front of the building.
Viewer video from the emergency response appears to show an Interstate Waste Services garbage truck at the scene.
Tom Henkler, the company’s vice president of sales, says he was inside with two other workers when it happened.
“All of a sudden a big bang and the wall started moving and stuff started falling off the walls,” Henkler told News 12.
He says the driver appeared to be OK, but workers had to knock out a window so he could get out of his office.
Video from inside the business shows the front of the office crushed in, with cinderblocks, glass and debris scattered across the floor.
Richardson says only minor injuries were reported. Officials with the business say they expect repairs to take weeks.
News 12 reached out to Interstate Waste Services for comment but has not yet heard back. State police are investigating but have not released additional details.
