A police investigation into an alleged sleight-of-hand scam at one Suffolk County store revealed the same women were allegedly behind a second similar scheme later that day.
Today, Suffolk County Police Crime Stoppers said they're looking for two women accused of using the deceptive tactics to steal about $880 from an employee of Giunta's Meat Farms at 1235 Middle Country Rd. on Sept. 23, a little before 5:30 p.m.
Last Tuesday, police put out an alert seeking to identify the same women who used similar deception to steal about $900 from an employee at Ollie's Bargain Outlet at 323 Middle Country Rd. in Selden a little after 3:30 p.m., also on Sept. 23.
Pictures released by Suffolk County police show the women wearing the same clothes at both locations, which are about six miles apart.
A sleight-of-hand scam is generally considered a type of theft where a person uses fast hand movements, rapid talking and distractions to steal money or goods from a victim.
Suffolk County police haven't specifically said what tactic the women are accused of using that helped them walk away with nearly $1,800 between the two stores.
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.
