Suffolk police get 'revolutionary' devices that can detect drugs through packaging
The pieces of equipment have the ability to detect hundreds of types of drugs, the county executive said.

10h agoThe Suffolk County Police Foundation gave the Suffolk County Police Department five TruNarc devices that can detect drugs through packaging.
District Attorney Ray Tierney called the technology “revolutionary.” The pieces of equipment have the ability to detect hundreds of types of drugs, the county executive said.
Deputy Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina said the “beauty” of the technology is that the drugs don’t have to be opened in order to be tested.
Lisa Tuozzolo is co-founder of the Suffolk County Police Foundation. Her husband, NYPD Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo, was shot and killed while working in 2016. She told News 12 that it’s “extremely important” to her that the work she does honors not only her husband but all fallen officers.
The police department already had two devices and now has seven. That’s enough to have one at each precinct.
