Throughout this afternoon and into this evening, travel will become more difficult due to the inclement weather. The further north you are, the more likely you'll see higher accumulation. This will be a fast-moving system. By 2 a.m., the snow should end. However, the impacts will be felt way after that with cold temperatures and black ice.
A winter storm warning is in effect for most of the Hudson Valley along and north of I-287. Neighborhoods under the warning can see more than 6 inches of snow. While the winds aren't expected to gust past 20 mph, it could be enough for visibility to be an issue. Driving will be difficult or impossible at times on untreated roads.
In southern Westchester County, a winter weather advisory is in effect. Final snow totals should be closer to 3 inches, and driving will be treacherous this evening. Although snow totals will be higher north and west of here, plowable snow is expected to make driving difficult.
TIMING: The worst weather arrives between 4-9 p.m. and will linger until midnight. Snow accumulation rates will exceed 1 inch an hour at this time so expect snow to accumulate very quickly.
Snow tapers off between midnight and 3 a.m. and sunshine is expected for the Monday morning commute.
THE WEEK AHEAD: Grab the blanket, thermals and second layer! Bitter cold weather is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Temperatures will be in the single digits, but it will feel like 0F or even colder in some neighborhoods. A weak disturbance could bring flurries Tuesday night into Wednesday. We're tracking another coastal storm Thursday night into Friday that could also bring additional snow showers. Stay tuned for the latest updates. An active storm pattern is expected for at least the next two weeks.
TONIGHT: Snow ends around midnight. Very windy and cold. Lows in the teens, feels like 0.
MONDAY: Sunny, cold, and windy. Highs in the mid 20s. Feels like near 10F. Overnight lows in the single digits.
TUESDAY: Dangerous cold. Feels like sub-zero in the morning with feels like temperatures near 10 in the afternoon.
WEDNESDAY: A stray snow flurry early. Dangerous cold. Feels like sub-zero in the morning with feels like temperatures near 10 in the afternoon.
