The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Northern Fairfield and Litchfield counties beginning on Sunday through next Friday.
The areas could see 5-8 inches of snow, which could be heavy at times.
Areas to the south and along the coast may see slightly less and there is a slight chance of some mixing, as temperatures there might not be as cold as the rest of the area.
The snow on Sunday could end up being significant and certainly more than we've seen with other storms so far this winter.
Some really cold arctic air will be pouring in on Sunday, and as it interacts with the secondary low pressure to our south, this will produce some high snowfall rates.
Slick and snow-covered roadways will be around in the late afternoon and evening on Sunday. The roads may still be an issue early Monday morning, but at that time the snow will be out of the area.
The coldest air of the winter season arrives on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This could be dangerou
        sly cold conditions.
Temperatures will only reach the teens/lower 20s during the daytime, and it will fall into the single digits to nearly 10 degrees for a few nights next week. The worst of the cold hits Tuesday through Wednesday. Wind chills Tuesday morning will most likely be well below zero and range from -5 below near the I-95 corridor, to -10 to -15 below for Northern Fairfield and Litchfield counties.
