People across the Hudson Valley began cleanup efforts Sunday after overnight storms with heavy winds brought down trees, snapped utility poles and left power lines strewn across streets.
Crews in Pearl River worked carefully on Blauvelt Avenue after branches pulled a power line down onto a parked car. In Bronxville, near the Yonkers border, a large tree crushed a brand-new Kia just one month after its owner bought it.
“Kind of heartbreaking to see something that you just got taken like that,” said Gina F., of Yonkers.
Northwest Yonkers residents were relieved to see Con Edison crews arriving after losing power during the storm.
“We lost power last night, eight o’clock,” said Nick Volchok. “The high winds blowing and everything…”
Crews continued to work across the region to restore power and clear dangerous debris as of Sunday afternoon. Residents are urged to stay away from downed wires and report outages or hazards to local officials.
