A winter storm is expected to bring snow, rain and ice to the Garden State late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
The snow and ice will likely make Thursday morning’s commute messy and dangerous. AAA says that drivers should be prepared now to deal with the conditions.
The organization offers the following tips:
        • Only go out if absolutely necessary
        • Drive slowly
        • Adjust speeds to account for lower traction
        • Be familiar with the vehicle’s brakes.
AAA says that if drivers have antilock brakes or not, they should keep their heel on the floor and only use the ball of their foot to apply firm and steady pressure on the brake pedal.
The storm could also lead to some power outages around the area. Paul Toscarelli, vice president of PSE&G Electrical Operations says that crews are on standby.
“Just like News 12 has its storm watch, at PSE&G, we’re in storm mode. We’re carefully and constantly monitoring the weather conditions very closely,” he says.
He says the company has been monitoring its crews and ensuring personnel are on hand and ready to respond.
“Most of the time snow itself will not be an issue. It’s the winds that do cause some issue with the trees knocking into our power lines and onto our wires,” Toscarelli says.
Toscarelli also recommends that people charge their devices overnight so that they will have access to their phones and tablets in the event of a power outage.
