The next snowfall is still a few days out, but people are already stocking up before the storm.
The Ace Hardware in North Massapequa was packed on Wednesday with people preparing for the worst.
The store is stocked with pallets of salt and ice melt, anti-freeze, snow shovels, gas cans and handwarmers, but some items have been scooped up. Managers say there are no more snow blowers left, and car snow brushes are going fast.
“We got plenty of ice melt. That's the most important thing. It seems. That's the thing that everybody wants…” said systems manager Don Schmidt. “Have it stocked up and have it early. Store it in any garage and you should have it early so you don't have to run out when the snow is actually coming down.”
Schmidt says this is a really busy time of year for Ace Hardware, especially when there’s a storm coming.
He says to call ahead to make sure what you need is still in stock over the next few days.
