State Sen. Herron Gaston, of Bridgeport and Stratford, says he's pushing "to streamline the federal Section 8 inspection process."
Gaston says several of his constituents have been displaced due to problems with the apartments they're renting.
"Landlords are not making the fixes fast enough, and so whenever Section 8 comes out to do an inspection, if they come out and do the inspection and the house is not up to standards, then they will not renew the voucher, therefore terminating the Section 8 voucher and these individuals are being displaced," Gaston explained.
Gaston adds that he's pushing for a legislative change that would "give landlords more flexibility under the law, so renters don't get penalized if landlords are making a good-faith effort to come into compliance."
