The site was the summer retreat home of Henri Bendel, which many people know for the famous department store in New York City.
There is so much to explore at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center.
At
Heckscher Farm you can see anything from goats, and cows, and even their brand new mini zebu.
"We also have a fair amount of heritage breeds, which are breeds that originated in early American life," says Victoria Jaffery, assistant director of education.
With more than 118 acres, you can also get out and really enjoy nature.
"One of the best known parts of this campus is our acres and acres of woodland forests, where we have trails that people can explore at their leisure," says executive director Bill Brucker. "This is also a big year for us because we just opened up our state of the art astronomy center and planetarium in November. This is really a hub for everything, space exploration and discovery."
At the foot of the campus is the historic Bendel Mansion, which houses the art galleries. The museum has been collecting art for 90 years.
Brucker says, the destination is a place for young and old alike.
"The Stamford Museum and Nature Center is not a place that you grow out of, it's a place you grow with," je says. "Because of our dedication to the community, we really want this to be a place where people can come and discover new things and learn new things and find their passions. It's a true gem of Stamford "
