        St. Raymond's offering scholarships to incoming students amid Preston HS closure

        Open since 1960, St. Raymond's Academy for Girls is welcoming Preston students to Parkchester with open arms.

        Catholic schools in the borough are offering to match the scholarships from Preston High School.
        This comes after Preston announced that it is set to close by the end of this school year.
        Open since 1960, St. Raymond's Academy for Girls is welcoming Preston students to Parkchester with open arms.
        "A bus ride away from Preston. So, I think it's good, convenient for the girls. They're going through a challenging time. So being able to just maybe have something that's still familiar, it's a plus," said Kenia Roig, assistant principal.
        Last week, Preston High School announced that it is set to close at the end of this school year because of financial struggles and declining enrollment.
        The students were left scrambling to find options for the fall.
        "Scholarships that the students at Preston have with the inner-city scholarship fund would follow them here," said Sr. Maureen Flynn, principal.
        Switching schools can be a big change, but the principal says both schools share similar values, so it would be an easier transition for students.
        "Our values of integrity, fortitude, faith and sisterhood, I think, go along with the Preston values of compassion," said Flynn.
