It featured a panel discussion highlighting the different ways in which the judges had overcome adversity.
"To be a Black woman, being celebrated here...you know? It's about time. It is about time, and we have to celebrate all women...and we have to celebrate the strengths we bring to the table, and our commonality," said the Honorable Janet Malone, who represents the New York state's Supreme Court 9th Judicial District.
The Honorable Bianka Perez was also honored at the event. She is the first person of Dominican descent to be appointed to the Appellate Term of the Supreme Court, First Department.
"I can tell you that I never thought I would be in this place today. Sometimes I wake up and still can't believe the position I am in," she said.
Many of the attendees were in agreement that gender equality within the judiciary is improving.
