Ferran Torres’ first goal of this year’s World Cup was the goal of his life, and it put Spain back atop the soccer world.

Denying Lionel Messi a second straight title in what he has indicated would be his final World Cup match, Torres came off the bench and scored in the 106th minute and Spain — in a match it simply dominated — ended Argentina’s reign with a 1-0 win on Sunday.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino walked alongside Trump to deliver the award.

After Argentina’s loss, Lionel Messi said: “I feel sad, but I am aware that we played our hearts out.”

He also complimented Spain.

“And they were better, to be honest,” Messi said. “We lost the game, and we accept that. That doesn’t mean that we will forget everything we’ve done so far, so I’d like to thank my people, my players and the country.”

Tens of thousands of fans waving Spanish flags and wearing Spain jerseys yelled and jumped in viewing areas throughout the country.
