A Bronx couple is dead, and police sources said they're investigating it as a murder-suicide.
The NYPD said it happened just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday inside of an apartment complex on Blackstone Avenue in Riverdale.
Officers arrived and found a 38-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman with gunshot wounds to the head. They were pronounced dead on the scene.
Sources said the man shot the woman and then turned the gun on himself.
"Between the shots, it was like boop, boop.... boop," said Kaela, a neighbor who only asked to give her first name. "And we also heard the thuds."
Police identified the woman as Andrea Cantarini and the man as Juan Cornelio Diaz.
Multiple neighbors told News 12 that the couple had a 6-year-old daughter together. The child was not in the apartment at the time of the shooting, they said.
"I honestly was so shocked that I didn't sleep because it was not the people I would've thought that would [lead to a fatal shooting]," said Karla Evangelista, another neighbor.
Evangelista said the couple lived in her building and moved to another part of the complex about a month ago so they could have more space.
"[Cantarini] was always so nice and helpful," said Evangelista. "And [Juan] was so nice. We'd always speak to him outside."
But multiple neighbors said they recently saw Cantarini in distress.
"She was sad sometimes, like, she was outside sitting," said Evangelista.
"We heard a woman's voice. We heard yelling [in the apartment the other night]," said Kaela. "It's just awful and upsetting and horrific."
News 12 spoke to Cantarini's father by phone Wednesday, but he declined to comment.
