Dozens of family members, friends, and community members gathered in Soundview on Monday night to grieve the loss of two brothers from Peru.
Police said the siblings were taken to hospitals, where they were pronounced dead.
"I thought that they were alive, and I didn't care about their condition, but that they'd be alive,” said Leider's widow. “I arrived and they told me that, 'No, they both were already dead.'"
Leider’s widow said her husband went to play sports then to a party.
Now, her 4-year-old son is without his father.
Gilmer Saldana said he witnessed Sunday’s incident.
He said there was an argument outside of the party about women, and the attacker first came after the witness, before one brother went to get the other.
"I'm right over here [on the sidewalk], and [one brother] comes back and they attack them right away; and I saw both of [the brothers] lying on the ground," Saldana said.
They group called for justice for the two men, who they said were hard working.
"It's impossible,” the widow said. “No one can take away this pain."
Police said, as of Monday night, no arrests had been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
