It's been a while since Hudson Valley drivers have had to drive in anything like the snow forecasted for the weekend.
Here's what to remember for a safe winter ride, according to the National Weather Service.
First – be prepared. Check your car's wipers, coolant, and tires. Make sure your gas tank is full.
Pack an emergency kit. Include a phone charger, flashlight, blankets, non-perishable food and a first aid kit.
Slow down and increase the distance between you and other cars. It will make it easier to stop without hitting someone if you start sliding.
Don't use cruise control, don't brake quickly, and don't make sharp turns. It all makes it easier to skid or spin.
