After an awesome Friday, great weather continues to hang around this weekend. But humidity and rain chances will be on the rise soon.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • How do we follow up the Pick of the week in the Hudson Valley? With a clear and nice night tonight and more sunshine through the weekend. Tonight, the full moon for August will rise, and it is the Sturgeon Moon. It is named that for that fish is in abundance during this time of the year and was the main catch for Native Americans conducting fishing runs. With barely a cloud in the sky, the view will not be blocked and all should be able to see the moon rise after 8 p.m. It will look very large on the horizon but will gradually look a little smaller as it rises above. It will peak at 3:55 a.m. before starting to go back down towards the horizon. It has to give way to the sunrise to follow, where we have another great day coming.
  • Mainly sunny skies, comfortable levels of humidity and a light breeze will be around for all. If we didn't already have a Pick of the Week today, I'd put that label on Saturday as well. Through Sunday, there will be a few passing clouds and warmer temps, but it will still be a nice day for all your summer activities.
  • Next week will see temps rising to the upper 80s to low 90s for several days. There is a chance a third heatwave of the season sets up, starting Monday. We have been rather dry through this month so far, but rain/storm chances will start to pop-up by mid-week next week.
  • What will be popping up next week is the Perseid Meteor Shower. It will peak Tuesday to Wednesday, the 12th-13th, where there could be numerous meteors streaking across the sky. Hopefully, the cloud cover will be thin and spotty then so we can see them.
