Borough officials in Rutherford say a busy section of West Erie Avenue will be closed “for the foreseeable future” while crews work to repair a sinkhole that formed on Saturday morning.
Crews were at work into Saturday evening draining the sinkhole that’s about the size of a parking spot.
Once it is emptied, crews will have a better idea of what happened and how to repair it.
The borough says utilities have not been impacted.
The affected area is next to the Rutherford train station and some small businesses.
There is a detour in place from Union Avenue to Chestnut Street.
