They’ve been hitting the ice together since they were little, and now a Long Island brother and sister are national award-winning figure skaters with their eyes on the Olympics.
Spinning through the air and gliding effortlessly across the rink, it’s safe to say skating runs in the blood of 20-year-old Oona and 22-year-old Gage Brown.
The siblings have been skating partners since before they were 6 years old and now they are aiming for the highest levels of the sport.
“We know where we will be and what to expect,” Oona says. “When we get on the ice, we're all about hard work.” That discipline has paid off. The siblings have an impressive list of accomplishments, most notably becoming World Junior Champions in 2022.
But they’re not stopping there. “Every day, we’re working tirelessly,” Gage adds, as the duo trains daily at the Clark Gillies Ice Arena in Dix Hills. Their short-term goal? A strong placement at nationals.
But their ultimate dream? Representing Team USA at the 2026 Olympics in Milan. “To have that much control on your two feet, with your blades attached to them and to just be gliding at that speed with that grace,” Gage says, “is just something I don’t think is comparable.”
