More than 200 families in the Bronx remained without power Saturday as a dangerous heat wave continued, leaving residents frustrated after spending a second day without electricity.
The outage affected apartment buildings in Soundview along Boynton Avenue between Westchester and Watson avenues.
While private homes across the street continued to have power, residents in the affected buildings said they have been without electricity since Friday afternoon.
Con Edison crews worked for hours Saturday to restore service, but residents said the prolonged outage has left them unable to charge their phones, keep cool or power essential medical equipment.
With temperatures climbing, many residents sought relief by sitting outside their buildings or staying inside their vehicles with the air conditioning running.
One family said the extreme heat made it nearly impossible to sleep overnight. They also said a relative who relies on an electrically powered medical device experienced a medical emergency during the outage.
“My aunt had to go to the hospital because she has this device for her lungs and it started to slow down,” a resident said.
Con Edison said crews were continuing restoration efforts and working to restore power as quickly as possible.
City officials urged residents in need of relief from the heat to visit cooling centers throughout the Bronx while temperatures remain dangerously high.
