Rutgers football wins sixth straight season opener with victory over Ohio

The birthplace of college football kicked off its 156th season as Rutgers took on Ohio at SHI Stadium in Piscataway.
News 12’s Dave Curren was there as thousands of fans came to the stadium early to tailgate.
The Rutgers Boardwalk returned for its fourth year. It opened four hours before kickoff with pregame festivities like a petting zoo, mini golf, food trucks and more.
Quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis returned to lead coach Greg Schiano’s offense. He passed for 252 yards and two touchdowns.
Kicker Jai Patel kicked a 26-yard field goal with 11:11 to play, snapping a 31-31 tie.
Rutgers won 34-31.
