Drivers on Route 208 should prepare for overnight lane closures and a long-term traffic shift this weekend as a bridge replacement project advances in Bergen County.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation says left lanes on Route 208 in both directions are scheduled to close from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday near the CR 507/Maple Avenue Bridge in Fair Lawn and Glen Rock.
The closures are needed so crews can install construction barriers and restripe the roadway.
By Saturday morning, all lanes are expected to reopen, but traffic in both directions will be shifted to the right, with portions of the shoulder and acceleration and deceleration lanes being used for travel.
NJDOT says the new traffic pattern is expected to remain in place through the end of 2026.
The shift is needed so crews can begin bridge pier work in the Route 208 median.
The project will replace the CR 507/Maple Avenue Bridge over Route 208 and includes upgrades to drainage, lighting, sidewalks, fencing and ADA-accessible curb ramps.
The $10.4 million federally funded project is expected to be completed in fall 2028.
