Rockland County Executive Ed Day gave an upbeat State of the County address at the county office building in Pomona on Tuesday.
During the 20-minute speech, Day promoted his fiscal policies and what is helping Rockland residents wallets.
He highlighted money saving measures as they deal with inflation impacting sales tax revenues.
County property taxes were cut by 2% for 2024 and 2025.
A $30 million savings on capital projects by paying up front instead of taking out a loan.
The county also turned to state and federal grants to offset purchases and other work.
Day touted winning a legal battle against New York state to preserve local election years, a low unemployment rate, preserving green space, the future of the Sain building and looking to address the housing crisis with new projects on the horizon.
"This is a leg up, it's not a handout, it's something we are reinvesting back into this community for giving people a shot at owning their own home," said County Executive Day. "Which is something we know is becoming extremely difficult."
"He runs a good show as a county executive and we're there to help him to get through the initiatives that we have started," said Jay Hood, a Democrat who chairs the Rockland County Legislature. "Right now, we really have things moving."
Day also noted the Rockland Office of Buildings and Codes has collected $700,000 in fines since it was formed three years ago.
The county's top official ending on a unifying message to turn everyone toward the future, "lets keep pushing forward, solving problems and delivering results."
