A man from Pearl River in Rockland County could face hefty fines after TSA agents found a loaded 9-millimeter handgun in his possession at Newark-Liberty International Airport this weekend.
He avoided arrest due to having a permit, but federal penalties for bringing a weapon to a TSA checkpoint can reach $15,000.
Officers said firearms must be unloaded, packed in a locked case, and declared to the airline at check-in.
