A gas outage at an apartment complex in Croton-On-Hudson has some tenants losing their patience. They say it went out more than a week ago following a fire at one of the buildings.
"It's just frustrating," says Amy Oliva, who lives at the Bari Manor Apartments.
The fire happened at one of the buildings at the Bari Manor Apartments on May 25. No one was seriously hurt, but the damage is extensive. About 15 people were displaced, according to officials.
"I have plenty of smoke damage," says Ms. J.
People living in that same building, like Ms J., haven't had gas since. A nearby gym is letting tenants go there for hot showers. However, many have gotten creative when it comes to bathing and cooking.
"We have a Crock-Pot or air fryer, but there are only so many things. It's not really a versatile way of cooking," says Oliva.
Officials with the village say personnel continue to be in regular contact with the Bari Manor on-site superintendent and management company, as well as the plumbers working on the gas service and Con Edison, adding, the head of service into the building passed inspection on Wednesday and they're pushing Con Edison to expedite the necessary approvals to begin turning on gas service to the individual units.
Con Ed sent the following update. "We were in touch with the plumber this afternoon and await completion of the internal (customer) repairs. Once the repairs are done and we have the paperwork confirming this, we will schedule a pressure test and if it passes, perform safety checks in each unit before turning gas back on."
News 12 reached out to the building management and is waiting to hear back.
In the meantime, tenants are hoping the gas is restored soon. Others are making it work.
"It's going to take time, the apartments are still livable because they have water running through them," says Adele Janson, who lives in the building.
Many tenants say their thoughts are with those who were displaced from the fire.
