A man is dead after a shooting early Friday morning in Canarsie—and now police are working to find out who did it.
It happened just before 2 a.m. at Rockaway Parkway and Avenue N. Police say a 42-year-old man was shot in the back. Officers found shell casings on Avenue N and followed a trail of blood to Rockaway Parkway, where the victim was found.
He was rushed to Brookdale Hospital but didn’t survive.
A woman who witnessed the shooting told News 12 she called 911 from her car.
“I was making a left on Avenue N. I saw the person walking across the street with a gun. I just heard pop pop pop. He started shooting at the other person,” she said.
Police haven’t said why the shooting happened or who they’re looking for.
NYPD stats show this is the fifth shooting in the 69th Precinct this year. That’s one fewer than this time last year—but neighbors say it still feels like too many.
“This is the third shooting in this neighborhood,” said a man named Kenny. “More needs to be done. It’s getting out of hand.”
