A reporter from the local news site The City is reporting that former longtime adviser to Mayor Eric Adams gave her a potato chip bag filled with cash following a campaign event on Wednesday.
Winnie Greco resigned from the Adams administration last year while under FBI scrutiny.
Report Kaite Honan says Greco gave her the bag containing a red envelope with a $100 bill and several $20 bills. Honan attempted to give the bag back.
“The fact that one of Mayor Adams’ closest, longtime advisors would attempt to ingratiate herself to any reporter, much less Katie Honan, with a cash gift is deeply disturbing and speaks to a rampant and blatant disregard for the role of a free and fair press," said the editor in chief of The City.
According to Greco’s attorney, the bag was meant to be a cultural gesture of friendship and gratitude, not a bribe.
