A fundraising ice hockey event in memory of 18-year-old Gerrin Hagen, was held Saturday in Long Beach.
Skaters hit the ice for the third annual Gerrin Hagen Memorial Hockey Day at the Long Beach Ice Arena.
Gerrin’s dad said the support the family has received since then has been overwhelming.
“We have been the benefactors of tremendous love, support and generosity of so many different communities," said Chris Hagen.
The first game played Saturday in his memory was the Nassau County Police Department versus the FDNY.
The hockey event is raising money for the G2H Foundation, the nonprofit that was started in Gerrin’s memory. The organization supports school and community sports scholarships and programs.
“We’re proud to say that in just two short years, we’ve been able to raise and distribute over $100,000 for different community programs supporting other charitable foundations," Gerrin's father said.
The Long Beach Guardians are playing in Saturday’s second game, many of whom were Gerrin’s teammates and coaches.
