All right, well, we like this. Baseball is back in Queens. It's the Mets home opener at Citi Field, and newswell's Jen Selig is outside of the stadium, all ready to go, Jen. We are so excited for later on this afternoon, especially when the fans start making their way here later on, and we have been chatting about ways to get here, the new attractions at Citi Field. But let's talk about the surrounding area because this could be the last year that Citi Field looks the way it does. There's lots of potential right now to revamp this area. Mets owner Steve Cohen's $8 billion. Metropolitan Park project that includes a hard rock casino, hotels, parking structures, a live music venue, and 25 acres of public park space. Lots of stuff going on potentially. Construction, it could start as early as next year if he wins the bid for the casino. That decision could come possibly by the end of this year. And there was also a bill. on Tuesday to convert parking lots to commercial use on to move forward with the project. So again, lots of things happening here for this season, possibly for the next season. We know that first pitch starts at 3:10. The parking lots open up at 12:10, so we're expected to see fans come in a little bit later, and we are ready for it all. We're live at Citi Field. Jen Selig, News 12.

All right, Mets fans have been counting down the days, but it's finally here. The home opener at Citi Field and newoen Selig is there with everything new you'll see at the stadium this season, Jen. We are so excited, especially since the rain has now lightened up. So when you come here to Citi Field today, you got to come happy, hungry, and excited because there are so many new attractions coming here to the stadium. First and foremost, this is the 3rd straight year for Citi Field, winning USA Today Readers' Choice Best baseball stadium food award. There's something for everyone to eat here. There's also a mascot race. 5 mascots representing the 5 boroughs will race for bragging rights for every home game. So Brooklyn gets the pizza, Manhattan, the skyscraper, Staten Island gets the ferry. The Bronx is the giraffe for the zoo, and Queens gets the subway car. The first race is today, of course, at the home opener. Also today, Mets legend Ed Cranepool will be honored this season. The Mets will wear a patch with his #7 on all their jerseys. His family is expected to be here at the game for a special pregame ceremony. Crane Pool passed away of cardiac arrest back in September at 79 years old, and he spent part of his time living on Long Island. And of course we can't forget about the new current players here on the field. It's Juan Soto's first year here on the Mets. $765 million contract is the biggest contract in Major League Baseball history, so we are hoping for an iconic historic season here for the Mets. It's an exciting day again, home opener. We know that it's going to be packed out here later on this afternoon, and we're going to stick around here at Citi Field to share more of the sights and sounds that will be happening.
