A major investment will soon breath new life into the Hostos Community College campus that hasn’t seen significant changes in nearly four decades.
Congressman Ritchie Torres joined school leaders, faculty and students to announce a $700,000 federal investment aimed at transforming the college’s library Tuesday.
The funding will go directly toward modernizing the Hostos library, which has remained largely unchanged since 1990. Daisy Cocco De Filippis, the college's president is grateful for what these enhancements will mean for the school community.
Some of the improvements include updating the library infrastructure to better support modern use, including improved study spaces designed for collaboration and individual learning. The project also includes expanded access to updated technology to keep up with the digital academic environment.
The upgrades aim to improve the overall learning atmosphere, making the library a more welcoming, functional and supportive space for the Hostos community.
There is no set date for when construction will start.
