Ramapo police: Kids rode dirt bike in wrong direction with no helmets, driver not at fault
Ramapo police say two 11-year-olds were on a dirt bike on the wrong side of the road - without helmets -when they were hit head-on by a driver on Sunny Ridge Road in New Hempstead. The driver stayed at the scene and is not at fault, according to the police.

21m agoNews 12 has learned new details from police about two kids who were hit by a car in Rockland County Wednesday afternoon.
Ramapo police say two 11-year-olds were on a dirt bike on the wrong side of the road, without helmets, when they were hit head-on by a driver on Sunny Ridge Road in New Hempstead.
They were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The driver stayed at the scene and is not at fault, according to the police.
"They're very sweet kids. I hope they're OK,” said one person who lives in the neighborhood that did not want to show their face or give News 12 their name. "It's very scary. I don't let my kids ride their bikes over here because it's just not safe."
Residents say they have concerns over speeding and careless drivers and hope officials consider installing a stop sign or speed bumps in the area.
"Imagine if it was your children,” the resident added. “Please be safe. I know you're in a rush to get places but it's not worth a life."
Ramapo police say that more than two dozen kids have been hit by vehicles in the town so far this year.
Five have been killed countywide.
