Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) unanimously denied the proposed sale of Aquarion Water Company to the South-Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority. Commissioners said the deal was not good for consumers.

Eversource wanted to sell Aquarion Water Co., which serves nearly 1 million people in the state, to a new quasi-public entity called the Aquarion Water Authority, but local leaders said the sale was flooded with concerns.

In addition, numerous towns opposed the multi-billion dollar deal.
