Public Advocate Jumaane Williams spoke to a Haitian church congregation in East Flatbush Sunday after the Trump Administration moved to end protected deportation status for Haitians. President Donald Trump's Secretary of Homeland Security announced last week that Temporary Protected Status (TPS) of Haitians will end in August. Williams spoke at the Evangelical Crusade Christian Church, telling the crowd Immigration and Customs Enforcement has not entered churches yet. The DHS estimates more than 500,000 Haitians were eligible for TPS as of July 2024. Last month, DHS also rescinded Venezuelans' TPS extension.
