A New Milford High School student is in stable condition this morning after being stabbed in the chest outside the school Monday afternoon.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said police responded to a large fight in the school parking lot on River Road around 3:15 p.m., finding the victim while suspects fled.
Two people are now in custody, and the case is being investigated as an attempted homicide.
Mayor Michael Putrino confirmed the victim is a student but believes the others involved were not affiliated with the school. He stressed the incident was isolated and the school remains safe, noting his own daughters attend.
He also said there are grief counselors available today as classes resume as normal.
