A typical summer Sunday changed in moments when President Joe Biden announced his exit from the 2024 race. Everyone has something to say about this historic development.
It is the talk of the town in Bethpage. “I would’ve preferred he stayed in, so it would’ve helped other people’s chances,” said Chris Paul, of Massapequa Park.
Jennifer Rickenbaugh, of Commack, said, “I think it was the pressure and now the COVID. I think just topped it off."
President Biden’s announcement comes after increasing pressure from several Democrat leaders, following the June 27th presidential debate.
Many Long Islanders also reacted to President Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris to be the nominee.
“It has to go through the process, but I would definitely vote for Kamala Harris,” said Jackie Minghinelli, of Huntington.
“She’s been absent for three and a half years. She’s done absolutely nothing as far as I'm concerned,” said Walter Gorney, of East Northport.
“I’m not sure I like that because I don’t really know anything about her. [I] would’ve thought maybe Michelle Obama,” said Dominic Vissichelli, of Huntington.
