Welcome back from our congressional districts to seats in the State Senate. The seventh Senate district is one that has flipped through the years, but this time it's staying in Republican hands. The incumbent Jack Martin secured his second term beating Democrat Kim Kerman. State Senator Martin's from Old Westbury has won and lost close races before. But he says voters are looking for pushback against policies put forth by Governor Kathy Hole and progressive Democrats in Albany. People realize that we need a correction in New York State and that means sending people to Albany who are gonna stand up to the runaway spending to the out of control policies to prioritize criminals over our law abiding citizens and put resources back in our schools. And the seventh State Senate district is in Nassau County, Northern NASA and joining us now to talk about his victory is state Senator Jack Martin. It's good to see you. Congratulations. Thanks for coming in here. Uh, pretty big margin of victory for you. What do you think that is? I think the message was uh, well received. You know, we have to return to, uh, to core values here in New York state. Um And I think the district understood that um as well as anyone else, you know, the idea of open borders, the impact on specifically on us, you know, we border queens, there's a migrant shelter, just a couple of miles up the road from so many of our constituents. They see it every day. They don't want to see those impacts, impacting our communities and then we can get into the economy, you know, inflation, the fact that things cost so much more today than they did just four years ago. And when seven out of 10 people, 70% of the state believe that the state is heading in the wrong direction. It's time for a correction. When you look at the results, Donald Trump carrying Nassau County, you winning by the margin that you did uh other Republicans doing very well across Nassau and Suffolk is Long Island becoming more Republican or is it just that the issues Republicans are talking about right now are resonating with people of all political stripes? I I think both, I think there's been certainly overreach by the left that have left people wondering uh frankly, I've had friends of mine who are Democrats who have told me clearly that they are not leaving the Democrat Party that the Democrat Party has left them. And I think that's a fair statement when you talk about the social issues. When you talk about uh migrant and open pool, open border policies and when you talk about the runaway spending that we see every day, um, it, it really is, um, an existential threat to many people and they perceive it as such and they voted accordingly. All right. So you go back to Albany now, Democrats, uh, retain control, got the governorship, got the Senate, got the assembly. Uh, what does it mean moving forward? What are the key priorities and how do you make them actionable here? Well, look, uh I've been in Albany for, uh for a few years. Um, you know, we have relationships up there on both sides of the aisle. I think this election sent a message to everyone. Uh, and they'll ignore it at their peril. Hopefully they'll see the same thing we do that there has to be a attack back to the middle that we are better off working together and, and they need to prioritize more than New York City. And so when you look at where the state has prioritized and failed over the last few years, um really at the expense of our communities on Long Island and in upstate New York and for the benefit of those urban communities, upstate and in New York City, um, it's time we got our fair share restored, balance work together. Do you think it happens? Considering the fact that uh many of the representatives are going to Albany from Long Island are Republicans and Democrats right now may not be in a position to necessarily wanna work with Republicans on Long Island if they're not defending so many Democrats in that same area. Well, look, uh, Donald Trump did, uh, remarkably well in New York State, not just on Long Island, in New York City. Um, we, we won a senate seat in Brooklyn. Um, the Republicans did. So, you know, if, if they want to continue down this road, that's their choice. They have an option now and elections allow for corrections and people can course correct any time they want. Um, if Kathy Hochul chooses not to, if the majorities in the Senate and the assembly choose not to, um, there's an election in two years and there can be another course correction and we'll pick up a few more seats. Um And, you know, slowly we'll make a difference. Six years ago. Republicans were in the majority in the New York State Senate just six years ago. We can get there again. They're giving us every opportunity to do so. We'll continue to fight, we'll continue to fight for our communities. Um But either they're gonna join us in reaching for the middle, um or we'll continue to hold them accountable as you look forward now to this next term. Um What, what's you think on the horizon here imminently that has to be dealt with? Well, look first, um, congestion pricing right there. Uh Kathy Hole said, you know, Governor Hochul said that we were going to press pause. Uh There's a real concern that she's going to now unpause congestion pricing and that's a significant impact to all of our communities, specifically ours here in Nassau County. Um I think there's a real concern about that. Uh Right on the horizon. Uh The regions uh announced their regionalization plan that impact every one of our school districts on Long Island. Coincidentally they did it at the end of September. It's going to have to be implemented or by, by uh beginning of December coincidence during a presidential election before we get back to the legislature in January, I think it's quite intentional. It's flown under the radar, it's under the radar, but it's gonna impact every one of our schools forcing our schools to share resources with adjoining school districts as decided by people who are not elected completely undermining all our local school boards. And as you know, rich, you know, our, our communities on Long Island are largely defined by our school districts. We're proud of them. We have some of the greatest school districts in the country. If, if New York State wants to come in and manipulate our school districts and hurt our kids. We're gonna fight. Is there a role for lawmakers to play in this short period now between now and December to potentially create a change? Well, we're going to continue to um to highlight it. We held a press conference just a week ago before the election because it was that important going into an election not ignoring the fact that this was on the horizon. We're gonna continue to push forward. Uh Jake Blumen Krantz in the assembly and I in the Senate have introduced a bill protecting our local school districts. And the idea is let's keep it on the front burner. Bring it to light and force the Democrats in Albany, including the governor to have to respond to it as we head into the new legislative session in January, we're certainly gonna be giving it a close eye here in the next couple of weeks as well. Welcome back to power and politics. Congressman Tom Swazi, another one of the winners from election night retaining his seat. The representative re-elected meeting out Republican challenger Mike Lepere in the race for the third congressional district. Swazi says Democrats across the nation should follow his lead and not pander to extremism. I think that this affirms what I've been saying along is that all along is that the people are sick and tired of people attacking each other and pointing fingers and playing partisan games. They want us to work together, they want us to reject extremism and they want us to solve problems using common sense to do things like secure the border to try and bring back the state and local tax deduction, which is so important to us here. Uh In New York Swazi won a close one. He says while he's a democrat, he's willing to work with the president elect Trump or any conservative work for aggressive to come to solutions that will help the American people. Republican incumbent Andrew Garbarino set to serve another term in the second district. He won by the largest margin when it comes to our local congressional races. And he says he's ready to continue his work. We have seen what has happened to our country over the last four years and we show today that we aren't going to take it anymore. We need to continue to fight. The second district includes a large part of our island's South shore, including Massapequa, Babylon Bay Shore and Medford. Even though Kamala Harris took New York. Donald Trump picked up over 52% of the vote in Nassau County for the first time in three tries. He wins the county. Nasa's GOP chairman tells us he believes it's a sign that Long Island is becoming more red. However, a political strategist might do its act says the island simply voting more Republican and the party can't rest on these results. It hasn't changed. They happen to be agreeing with you now, you know, but when you start to make the mistake of thinking that the electorate themselves have changed, that's where you go wrong. A presidential candidate wins by 33,000 votes. A gubernatorial candidate two years ago by 50,000 votes were doing something right. And Nasa GOP chairman there, Joe Cairo tells us the party plans to take a stronger look at absentee and early voters for future elections including the race for governor in 2026 Congressman Nick Lalo, another big winner on our east end in the first district. And of course president elect Trump made it a point to campaign here. On Long Island in Nassau County. And we asked Bruce Blakeman, the Nassau County executive, what he thinks a Trump White House could deliver. I have a lot of things that, uh, that I want to talk to, uh, President Trump about for Nassau County. Uh, we have an aging infrastructure. Our sewer system needs $100 million minimum, uh, to bring that up to standards. Uh, there's so many things we need and Blakeman says he plans to run for re election but would consider a role in the Trump administration. If asked, that's all for power and politics.
